Hp DeskJet 2131 scanner not detected by Ubuntu 12.04

Asked by Gyanendra Kumar Gyan

I connected my newly purchased all in one printer with scanner and the printing function is running well after downloading and installing the driver automatically by opening System setting-printing, but the scanner failed to be detected by simple scanner. I tried Xsane and it also failled.
Then I followed the instructions given upon this site-
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SANE%20-%20Installing%20a%20scanner%20that%20isn't%20auto-detected
Now the scanner is being detected but, only black image is received as a result of scanning.
The printer cum scanner is doing well, when copying and printing directly. It means the hardware is ok.

Try the latest HPLIP. May help. Run the 4 commands below as your user and reboot:

cd $HOME

wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/hplip/hplip-3.15.11.run

chmod +x ./hplip-3.15.11.run

./hplip-3.15.11.run
