Is gthumb worth another look for Xubuntu Xenial?
Are app decisions in Xubuntu Xenial frozen yet? Since the distro image size >1GB is a current issue, I would like to ask about returning to gthumb as a replacement for both ristretto and imagemagick in the daily builds. Serious graphics hackers are going to install GIMP anyway (I can't live without it), so basic users and new windows-refugees only need basic editing functions that are easily accessible. Gthumb was the Xubuntu image viewer before Precise. I think the current gthumb might offer these advantages today:
* A single app that integrates three functions:
image viewer; simple folder-based photo manager; and basic photo/image editor.
* Clean, single-window GUI that's more consistent with the Xfce desktop and imagemagick.
* gthumb is faster and easier to use for navigating large photo collections with less powerful hardware, in my experience.
* Consumer users (and windows-refugees) are accustomed to integrated photo manager/editor apps,
and gthumb is pretty intuitive, using the existing file system and without the overhead of Shotwell, etc.
Is there still time for discussion about the graphics apps?
