Ubuntu 8.04 supported sound cards

Asked by Ampers

Do you have an extended list of sound cards which are supported "out of the box" in the forthcoming 8.04 version?

I am unfortunate to own the Creative X-Fi card and need to change it.

The cards on your support website are from earlier Ubuntu offerings and I can no longer buy any of the lower cost ones and the one I found is over £100.

I appreciate the list may not be finalised as yet, but would welcome any you have already included.

Thank you.

You can have a look at the ALSA web page. http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page
Many sound cards are supported by ALSA and Linux, and so, by Ubuntu, but the Creative X-Fi is an exception.

Creative has released some code of their X-Fi cards I think.

Thanks. I had just tried the beta for 8.04 and the X-Fi sound card works. I just managed to cancel my order for an MAudia Revolutuion card in time :-)

How did you install it for it to work? Most people said it didn't work.

I just updated to 8.04 and it worked automatically.

Apart from updating I didn't do a thing.
