connecting droid maxx HD as filesystem
Used to connect my now-bricked droid maxx via USB and get 2 fs, 1 for internal 1 for SD. With maxx HD can't see it at all. What's problem & how fixed? Win 10 sees it as one drive with 2 root directories. - sent from the maxx HD.
This is a not-quite-duplicate of a question I asked back in May. I am now asking about my Maxx HD.
267407 USB Mass Storage connection for Motorola Razr Maxx
Asked by Phil Norisez on 2015-05-26
I am up to date (26/5/2015) on updates to 12.04 LTS. Previously, my Motorla Razr Maxx smartphone connected as a mass storage device and was mounted with two mountpoints, one for the internal RAM and one for the SD Card. Now I plug it in, and nothing. Are there any suggestions as to how to fix this, short of upgrading to a later version?

#1 When you unplug the phone on USB, do you use the safe remove feature in the OS before physically unplugging the device?
Phil Norisez (norisezp) said :
#2 Yes. Note: it works OK on Win7.
Manfred Hampl (m-hampl) said :
#3 Are there any messages in the system logs for that device?
Plug in the smartphone, wait 30 seconds and then issue the command in a terminal
dmesg | tail
What does it show?

@mhampl The following shows output from dmesg|tail -50, to get plenty of records for your analysis. I'm not sure if the memory corruption reported has anything to do with it.

Sorry, I am lost. I do not understand the relation between your two questions https:/
With which system connected did you create that dmesg output?
If you repeat the command, do you still get the same output?

@m-hampl Here is a full disclosure. 267407 was filed back in May 2015 against my then DROID RAZR MAXX. I failed to respond in time, so it was expired. In December 2015, I filed 279679 against my DROID MAXX HD, having forgotten that 267407 existed and, also, having bricked the DROID RAZR MAXX and obtained the DROID MAXX HD as a replacement. Then, I discovered 267407. I couldn't discover how to delete it, so I tried to synchronize 267407 and 279679 by copy/paste. I'll admit that the result is confusing, but I wanted to give you, or actionparsnip, the choice of to which to post your comments. I hope that clears things up, and now, the answers to your questions:
With which system connected did you create that dmesg output?
The DROID RAZR MAXX HD, running the latest (as of 19/12/2015) update of 12.04 on the PC. As I said, the non-HD DROID RAZR MAXX was bricked, so is now unusable for anything. However, the observed symptom appears identical as far as the ability to access the RAZR MAXX HD is concerned.
If you repeat the command, do you still get the same output?
I repeated it a number of times at the time that I generated the output that you see.

After some research on other forums (android, ubuntu) I think I have uncovered the "disconnect" between Android devices and Ubuntu PCs. It seems that later Android devices no longer support mounting as a USB mass storage device, but instead use Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) and Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP). Further, I have found no easy way on Ubuntu to mount an MTP device as a filesystem, as Windows does automatically.
I refer readers to this discussion of MTP/PTP: https:/
The following is a suggested approach to solve the issue, but seems fraught with pitfalls: http://
Finally, this possible solution from the Android forum on Stackoverflow: http://
I hesitate to apply either of the above "fixes" because 1) the first one seems to be controversial, and 2) the second comes from a website that is very unfamiliar to me.
What have others on here found out about this? Is Canonical working on a solution? How about Launchpad contributors?
