I am trying to install 7.10 64-bit on brand new Compaq F750US; Stops process xscript after manual monitor configuration

Asked by AlanB66

I just purchased a new Compaq Presario F750US and took an image of the shipped hard drive.
I've also downloaded Ubuntu 7.10, 64-bit and burned the installation CD.
The CD test completes w/o errors, per the Ubuntu main installation options screen.

During the attempt to install, I eventually receive a message that the monitor could not be automatically configured.
I've tried "Continue" and "Configure", both of which seem to hang thereafter.

1. Should I revert to 6.06LTS, 64-bit?
2. Should I try 7.10, Standard x86?
3. Should I revert to 6.06LTS, Standard x86?

I am not new to Linux, but I am new to Ubuntu.

Thanks, in advance, for any assistance/guidance/opinions offered.

p.s.: I would also like to know if the installer will eventually offer to format the whole drive before installing or if I need to do that ahead of time on my own.

the manual will take some savy as far as mount point and systems such as the fat32 "bastard"

you may need to reburn the iso at say 28 times speed or something a little less savy for the optic nerve on your d-c-rom

I Google'd more about Ubuntu and an F750US (F700 Series) and found that I need to boot intially in Safe Video mode:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=687833

Once that goes well and all is installed, I've read the proper display driver will be detected and installed.

So far, I'm further into the boot-up via CD than before. I'm in the graphic display, the install is running and all seems well.

If I have further issues, I'll post a new topic with the specific issue in the subject.

Thanks for the quick replies and suggestions!
