I Can't Send Email From Opera - SMTP Settings Issue

Asked by taurus

I had followed instructions according to this guide:http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-200408.html to send and receive hotmail from Opera. I am able to receive hotmail but I'm not able to send email. Before my ubuntu 7.10 crashed, I was able to send email. After I re-installed ubuntu, I forgot what I did to configure the settings via smtp to send email through Opera. I know it uses port 25. Does anyone know what are the proper smtp settings to send email? Thanks!

According to your link,

Send Server type: SMTP
 Server: 127.0.0.1:2500
[X] Server requires authentication (check this box)
 Use Secure Connection: No encryption
 Authentication Type: PLAIN
Username: <email address hidden> (same as above)
 (Optional Remember password checkbox)

seems to be the right configuration for smtp to hotmail. Does this not work?

Well sorry for the confusion.. this is for evolution...

I am not sure that I understand your question. If you use hotmail on a webbrowser like opera, you should not need to configure any smtp server, since you probably use the hotmail web interface that takes care off all of it. You should just click on the compose button.

If opera has a mail client that works independent to the webapplication, than the configuration for this should be the same as evolution above.

Ralph, thanks for the reply... When you said that opera's mail client should work the same as the configuation noted above, I must disagree with you. Before my computer crashed a month agao, I was able to send email just fine. I don't remember what exaclty I did in editing SMTP in inetutils-inetd, but I think I changed the port setting in that file to some number That alowed me to send email from Opera. But, since reinstalling ubuntu, I don't remember those settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Joel, I'm going nuts over this. I don't think the issue is the browser because before my computer broke down last month, I was able to send mail successfully. It's in the settings where I edited inedt.config. I wish I remember what I did to achieve this though. Do you or anyone know any other alternatives? Myabe a program I can download to get Opera to send mail?

i cant remember were it is but i think its under tools >send recieve mail
or tools >preferences> advanced>network

or something like that i havent used opera since the spawn of satans windows which it seem better suited to

as it was an off shoot of firefox in attempt to compete for compatibility

and again i rteally would search the operea community on that there very helpful and they probably still have irc or voip

sorry if this doesnt help dont give up youll figure it out
