Xubuntu clicking on a link on one desktop makes my browser jump to that desktop

Asked by davew

I've been using Xubuntu since 6.06 and love it for its speed and well-though-out simplicity. When I upgraded to 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) a few months ago, I noticed a different behaviour when using multiple desktops in Xfce.

I have my web browser (FF) on one virtual desktop, and my email client and IM client on another. Previously when I clicked on a URL in my email or IM clients, that link would open in the browser on the next desktop. But now when I click on a URL, the browser window moves to the current desktop. I have tried toggling many of the standard and advanced window manager settings, but cannot get the previous behaviour.

Is there a way in Xubuntu 7.10 to have the browser window stay on its own desktop when I click on a URL on another desktop? This was possible in older versions on Xubuntu, and I find it annoying that I keep having to move my windows back to where they should be.

Cheers,

Dave

I hope this will help.

Hi Urbán,

This looks _exactly_ what I need. I'll try it out when I'm back at work after the Easter holiday.

Thanks a lot for finding this, sometimes it is hard working out exactly what search terms to use for a problem.

Cheers,

Dave
