The Huawei sticks have built-in storage with software for windows, and this presents itself to Ubuntu as CD-Rom. This is normal.

System Settings > Network also indicates that the Mobile broadband is connected.
but it will not connect onto the internet.

Just re-booted again and Mobile Broadband does not work again.
The light on the dongle is on.
Network Manager indicates that Mobile Broadband is connected and shows the IP & DNS addresses.
But will not connect to the internet.

Can you try pinging servers like 8.8.8.8, does this work?

What if you use the network connection drop box to disable the network and the re-enable the network? Does this help?

The funny thing is that it always worked with all the other operating system upgrades until the upgrade was made to Ubuntu 15.10.

This does not always happen. Only sometimes - I cannot quite figure out when exactly this happens.
I tried it out just now and it did not happen. It shows the Dialog GSM Postpaid as connected.

Try again: open a terminal and type

re# 15 - I just know how this happened and cannot re-create it again although trying so many times.

The Mobile connection still does not work with Ubuntu 15.10 but it works, plug and play, on Ubuntu 15.04 without any problem. Just plug in the mobile dongle and it works. The settings are the same.

I do not know whether there is any problem with the network manager or the network applet (nm-applet, i think). Is it possible to delete these two programs and any other related program and re-install them again.

For an attempt to re-install the related packages, first step must be listing them. What is the output of

dpkg -l | grep -i network

Another test worth trying could be to create a new user, log in as this new user and try connecting. If it works with the new user, but not with your normal one, then most probably the cause is user-private settings. If the new user cannot connect either, then it is probably related to global settings, or an error with the software.

It still works on a computer with Ubuntu 15.04 but does not work on computers with Ubuntu 15.10 (have tried out on 3 computers so far)

This question was expired because it remained in the 'Open' state without activity for the last 15 days.

I have the ame problems. On upgrade to 15.10, my mobile broadbnand does not work any more.

I think the bug report should be filed.

At first my mobile broadband connection worked fine. Then on some upgrade to a higher version of Ubuntu the prompt for entering PIN code was not showing any more. I don't remember which upgrade was that. I am upgrading this computer constantly with every new Ubuntu since 2013.

I solved the issue by entering the PIN into network settings. On upgrade to 15.10 I can't connect any more.

I have a dual boot on this computer. So I boot into Windows and enter PIN there. When I reboot the modem remains unlocked. This was the trick before to get connection. Now even this trick does not work any more. Here is the log:

I hope these log entries will help identifying the issue.

I have found a workaround for me. I have to establish connection in Windows and then just reboot without closing the connection and leaving the modem in active state. When I boot in Ubuntu after Windows stop I can connect. However, I would not call thus a credible workaround because it works just for me on this particular computer (dual boot) and with this particular modem.

I am also using a Dual Boot - Windows & Ubuntu
When I exit from Windows the Mobile Connection cuts off automatically.

Yes the connection cuts off, but in my case it stays in such state that I can establish it from Ubuntu.

I have an application in windows to start a connection. It is a part of driver for modem. If I close that application manually and reboot into Ubuntu I cannot connect. If I only restart Windows without closing the application manually I can establish a connection in Ubuntu. I don't know why it works that way. It is really strange, but it works for me. Of course I would prefer working connection in Ubuntu as it used to work.

I am on that connection now.

The mobile Broadband connection still does not work.
The drop down menu for the network connection indicates that the Mobile Broadband connection is connected but it will not connect to the Internet.

The Connection Information menu also indicates that it is connected.

The Edit connection menu gives the following error report:-

Found a way round this problem.

Deleted all network connections. (You may want to copy down any special network settings before you do so.)

Plugged in the Mobile Dongle. It sets itself up as "Auto Ethernet" and NOT as "Mobile Broadband".
And it now works flawlessly.
I cannot explain how this happens but it just works and that's fine by me.
It you already have a wired connection such as an ADSL modem, the ports may clash.
