Ubuntu overheating

Asked by Levi

Hello, I'm having a problem that when I play games on my computer it'll completely shutdown, I believe it to be a problem from overheating. I'm planning on cleaning out the fans later today but I was wondering at what temperature does the computer shutdown? Or is there some way to check this?

They you may want to install the proprietary video driver.

It should help

I've looked under system settings>software&updates>additional drivers but it says no additional drivers are available?

Could try the 4.2 kernel. It may help

Alright, I've developed a new problem... My resolution is way off and theres no option to change it, under my settings details it no longer shows my AMD R710 graphics and the output of sudo lshw -c display has changed to:

 *-display UNCLAIMED
       description: VGA compatible controller
       product: RV710 [Radeon HD 4350/4550]
vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:05:00.0
       version: 00
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pm pciexpress msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list
       configuration: latency=0
       resources: memory:d0000000-dfffffff memory:feae0000-feaeffff ioport:d000(size=256) memory:feac0000-feadffff

You'll see now it says, "UNCLAIMED" at the top and the configuration line has changed

Is this with the 4.2 kernel?

No, this happened after I shutdown to clean my fans

But I think it may be a result of something i did before I shutdown and I tried undoing everything I could remember but it's still funked up

Do you think installing the 4.2 kernel would fix this? Or is there another way to fix?

From what I can tell it's basically not seeing the AMD R710 graphics now, right? That seems to be the root of my issues
