Hello Shourve:

You are a recent windows convert I think.. So a bit Info about downloading and installing packages in ubuntu

In windows you were downloading programs and a Menu would come up where you were clicking next and installing the program... In Ubuntu its even more simpler believe me... :)

Ubuntu/Debian uses a package management system called APT (Advanced packaging tool) (and here .deb is equivalent to .exe in windows) which allows you to install the program and the dependencies all at once in a single command

Whats that?

Its sudo apt-get install name_of_your_program*

* = name of the package you are installing

Note 1. To enable extra repositories in feisty to install universe and multiverse components ref the below link for a detailed info:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources

(2) To have an idea so as to what are Universe and multiverse repositories ref:

http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components

(you need to have access to the Internet while downloading and installing packages from these repositories)

dont worry In case any problems occur the community is there to help you out..

(3) As a tip: If any of the post here answers your question here please click " This solved my problem " Button on the RHS bottom of the answer post.. Or if you are using an email interface please click the link below ' If this answers your question " or something similar in the post of the answer which solved your problem

Applications => Add/Remove... is the easiest way of installing and removing programs. It's a good starting point for beginners.

But if you want to become more proficient with ubuntu you should learn more about apt-get.

Can you help with this problem?
