If it is NTFS then run a full chkdsk in Windows. This will help. If the drive is USB bases then remember to always use the safe remove feature in the OS before you physically unplug the device.

The file system is not NTFS , it is exFAT. It is my internal harddisk partition , not a USB

What happens, if you try unmounting and re-mounting that device?

I'd still run a chkdsk, just to be sure the issue is not caused by a bad file system

Hi Andrew,

I ran chkdsk from Windows. But did not find any errors.

Hi Manfred,

I umounted and mounted the /dev/sda4 , the disk which has problem. please find result below Though it says it cant find device after mounting, I can see the first level of folders while I access using nautilus.

syam@syam-HP-Notebook:~$ sudo umount /dev/sda4
[sudo] password for syam:
syam@syam-HP-Notebook:~$ sudo mount /dev/sda4
mount: can't find /dev/sda4 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

" ...I can see the first level of folders while I access using nautilus... " Does it work again, or do you just see the first level of folders, but not deeper into the directory structure?

If you reboot, do you experience the same error?

I recommend that you create a bug report (by sending the error report as shown in your screen shot) whenever you get such error message popup again.

Yes, first level of folders are visible even after reboot. I even reinstalled the system. The issue came after the software update three of weeks back. The system automatically sends some report. I thought in subsequent release of software update this shall get fixed. Where should I report it ? Do we have option to send bug report in launchpad?

If you get a pop-up like the one shown in the screenshot, just let this dialogue continue to report the problem in the bug tracker (make sure tat the tick mark for "Send an error report to fix the problem" is set. and press the "continue" button, and so on).

Can you help with this problem?
