If you have a bug reported you don't need a question as well

Thx, but sorry, pardon my ignorance, actually I just commented on the bug report.

At the moment the status of http://www.htacg.org/tidy-html5/ is unclear (to me):
is it a fork, an update?

What is the procedure to get such an initiative into debian?

What to do with version numbering. old package had a security fix and got a version number to that date (20091223cvs-1.2ubuntu1.1). How do you get back to normal version numbering e.g. 5.1.x

"What is the procedure to get such an initiative into debian?" - I guess it will be creating a bug report in the debian bug tracker.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=655200 seems to be already covering this issue (without definite solution).

Changing the numbering scheme most probably has to be dome with adding an epoch indicator. The latest version probably has to be named 1:5.1.24-xxx in Ubuntu to make sure that the version number is rated higher than 20091223cvs-xxx
