Ubuntu will not load at all

Asked by Brutal_Moose

I am a novice at Linux. If you have advice, or an answer to my question, please give a full explanation, so that I may understand it. Please do not omit any steps in the instructions, or I will probably not be able to complete them.

     Ubuntu 15.10 laptop.

I installed several new applications onto Ubuntu. I suspect that the one that probably caused the problem is MacBuntu 15.10 Transformation Pack: http://www.noobslab.com/2015/11/macbuntu-1510-transformation-pack-for.html

When I turn on my computer, it goes to the standard glowing purple loading screen, then switches to a black/white/green text only screen, with many things saying [ OK ] in green. It never gets past this screen, and just stays there forever. I have technically had this installation of Ubuntu for 1 year, and have not had any problems this big yet. What are the recovery utilities I should use to repair this? What steps or safe modes should I activate or use? Thank you.

Parsnip, you have helped me with many Ubuntu issues. You know that I am novice, and I begin every thread by stating that. Thank you.

Because of this, and another unrelated error that I spent several hours on that was unfixable, I decided to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch.

I figured out what the problem was. I chose an customized theme program from Noobslab.com to run my Login manager as the older GDM system, instead of the newer LightDM system.
