Grub rescue - not an assignment

Asked by budi machribie

Hi,

I've double boot Xp-lubuntu 14.04

All of a sudden the Boot didn't work as expected

In the past no problems when I did the foloowing

Grub Rescue >> ls (hd0,msdos6)

However now I got the message

Grub Rescue >> ls (hd0,msdos6)
Grub Rescue >> not an assignment

Any suggestions ...?

Btw it is boring to repeat typing the Grub Rescue everytime at boot .... is there a way to repair it

Thanks

Budi M

OmgUbuntu has a guide called "sticking it to GRUB" you can chroot to the installed OS and reinstate GRUB to the MBR. You will then be able to boot Ubuntu and then add Windows to the bootloader from there.
