using metacity with ubuntu 14.04

Asked by andy

running ubuntu14.04 on old fuji esprimo and suffering very slow display response. I have already added xorg.conf to get resolution required (mirage sis) and have followed advice to run metacity from login and this speeds everything up fine. On relogin after power down display shifts right 4cm losing the logout at top right (and everything in that portion of screen)
Present solution is to login ubuntu standard, logout , login metacity - is there an easier way?
