driver for wireless LANcard

Asked by PETER SNOWDEN

Have a Ralink Turbo Wireless LAN CARD RT61,which runs OK on Windows XP Pro.Have down loaded a driver from Ralink.tw as a tar file.Extracted and checked that it seems to all be there.Copied this onto a CD.Now I would like to install it into ubuntu 7.10 on the sata 80 gig hard drive. When I checked via network adapters that part appears ready as I put in the hex wep password and enabled DHCP and the ssid name. How should I proceed,PLEASE.

hello PETER SNOWDEN,

I do not know how reliable the driver from ralink.tw would be with ubuntu gutsy. I do know for sure that rt73 that I'm having with a driver from serialmonkey site works great with gutsy - it compiled and created the module without a hitch.

So, please take a look at the following url where you'll find a driver for your card,

http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads

if you accept this proposal pls download the cvs file - it'll be on your desktop. then follow the instructions on the url below

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/RalinkRT61

I would suggest first read the howto, there is a change required for gutsy. then proceed with the install.

please keep us posted with the progress.

regards,

peter b
