USB or URL error

Asked by Geo.Watson

One of my copies of UBUNTU 14.04 LTS has developed a fault:-

"Invalid url: '/media/george/<device>' given, exiting No ':' in the uri"

This occurs when I insert a disc in the Disc Drive, or use a USB Memory Stick, or a USB Hard Drive , or read a file from another version of UBUNTU on the same Hard Drive (Dual Boot).

Can anybody help with a solution, or where to find the programs that cause the errors?

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

WE seem to have a misunderstanding here.
My version of UBUNTU 14.04 has worked on this machine for several years.
In the last three months it has developed the given fault.
I used the CD Drive to load the 15.04 version beside it on the same machine.
This version works perfectly, loads and plays CD's, loads contents of my memory stick, loads the contents USB Hard Drive.
Clearly the 14.04 has developed a fault in one of files but I do not know which one to look at and replace with a good copy.
Eventually I may have to remove it and reinstall it, but I would prefer to fix it.
Thank you for your help so far.

I'll try to get my head around MD5SUM and see how it might be used to find the error in '/'
