risk in upgrading ubuntu while os is dual booted win& & ubuntu

sir i'm using ubuntu 12.04 &windows7 home basic dual booted os. i want to upgrade my os win7 to win10 & ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04.3, but think it can be crash ..... so please tell me can i upgrade it only one win7 or ubuntu12.04.. THANK YOU

I'd remove Ubuntu from the system, then upgrade Windows and then reinstall Ubuntu to the previous space used by Ubuntu (you'd remove Ubuntu by deleting the Linux partitions. Be sure that you backup all the data you need).

The Windows updater is far from graceful.
