Install on XP/SuZE laptop

Asked by Don Kerns

I have XP in partition 0 and SuZE in part 1, plus swap in part 2. I want to install ubuntu over SuZE but don't want to run the installer and risk ubuntu installing over XP. Will it give me options to control the install when I tell it to install, or will it just take off and wipe out XP???

It gives you control of where it will install. Just have to pay attention to the section where it asks about partitions during the install.

I have created a screencast which shows roughly how this happens:-

It doesn't precisely cover your scenario, but it will give you an idea of what happens.

Thank you very much, just needed some reassurance I would not be reinstalling entire machine. Can't live without XP - yet :)

Alan, thank you too. It will be a day or so before I can look at your screencast, as it will not play on my Treo. I appreciate the effort.
