On my Dell Vostro 430 with Bios 2.2.0, how do I change boot device from Hard disk to CD?

Asked by jkohler2

For every Desktop and Laptop PC I have ever used,
it was possible to press a function key (F1 to F12) to halt
the boot process and go to a version of the BIOS and change
to any other device; that is, CD, floppy disk, etc.

I have a used Dell Desktop Vostro 430, and, try as I might,
I cannot get the system to start from the CD drive with a
Ubuntu 15.04 disk in.

Am I condemned to a life with Windows 7?

15.04 doesn't have much life left. I suggest you use Wily which is pretty new out of the door.

I believe Dell use F2 to enter BIOS.

Hello,

Thanks for your prompt answer. I have a 1510 on its way to me.

I find that F2 does give me a menu in the BIOS, but it is not like
any other BIOS menu I have seen before. I cannot find a sub-menu
with a list of devices on it that allows me to change the order of
things like hard drive, floppy drive or CD drive.
