Hey John, welcome back.

When you say you do not want to enter your password each time you login, is that at the logon screen that you get about 2 minutes after turning on your computer? The one with the big Ubuntu logo that looks like this:-

If so, it's a security issue to allow the system to log you on automatically with no password, but it is possible to do it. Some people would argue that by not prompting for a password, someone you don't trust could gain access to your files. However if they have physical access to your machine they can get to anything anyway, so it's a bit moot really :)

Aaaanyway. What you need to do to make the logon automatic is:-

Logon - yeah, you'll need your password :)
System (menu at the top of the screen) --> Administration --> Login window
You will get asked for your password one last time.
Then you need to navigate to the tab labelled "Security" and at the top you should see an option "Enable Automatic Login", tick that.
Fill in the username you want it to automatically login as either by typing it or choosing from the list.
Click Close (at the bottom) and you're done.

This is what you should see:-

The alternative is the option below that which is probably pretty self explanatory - if someone doesn't login within a specified number of seconds it will login as the user you specify anyway. Same thing as above but with a delay so that you could choose to logon under a different account if you wanted to, but just doing so before the timer expired.

Hope that helps, and I hope I got the right end of the stick.

Also, if you are using wireless and get the message 'enter password to unlock default keyring' there is a workaround for that, let us know if that is the case.

Popey, Nice reply, want to throw that into the wiki?
