Cannot install Nvidia A6200 TDH driver (AGP Version)

Asked by youngpatrick

I got ubuntu 6.06 LTS Live CD version. I am using MESA openGL x-server and everything seem to be OK. When I try to install Nvidia A6200 TDH AGP version driver from Nvidia offiical installer.

1) type sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux...run file. The installer ask me to have binutils or ld.....and fail to continue to configure x-server..AND stop the installation.

2) Now, I would like to know what the binary files and how I can get it, if applicable. However, is there any alternative method to install the captioned driver without any binary utilities such as gcc compiler. If yes, where I can find it (Please send me the details)

Kindly send me your professional advice by return e-mail at

The nvidia video driver is packaged in ubuntu as "nvidia-glx", so there is no need to use the driver from the nvidia website. The following web page details how to install it:-
