after update kernel, ubuntu freezes after log in

Asked by Romy Mertz

There was that last update on kernel along with firefox and chromium. I restarted the two browsers but I continued with my work without restarting the whole computer. Later that day after reopening my pc, I logged in correctly but then messages to report a problem started to appear. I made the reports but firefox didn't start and chromium after sometime working with problems and no sound at all, crashed too. Then after a restart my pc always freezes after letting me log in. I continue to see the purple colour forever. No other browser started except midori, too.
I have ubuntu 14.04 LTS on a turbo x machine.

The boot problem probably is Bug #1503655

In the Grub menu you should be able to select booting into an older kernel.
A new version of the kernel (3.19.0-31.36) was published a few hours ago. Updating to that version should solve your problem.

(I do not know whether that helps also for the browser problems.)

I selected an older kernel to boot the pc and then I updated to the new version of the kernel (3.19.0-31.36). Everything is ok. THANKS A LOT!
