Okay why can I not use the SD card anymore

Asked by Lynne Stevens

Seems I am not the one who has permissions to add or delete files from it . . Everything last week was okay to copy delete or add files ( before update to use 15.04 3.X X 31 something kernel ) I have had to back up to 3.x.x. 30 to use the laptop as it was freezing up at the sign on screen ..I even reformatted the SD card in the camera . . Still can't get any thing to work with it
What the beep is going on ?
Oh yeah still have ABI starting up on start up . . Why major pain in the you know where !

What format is the file system on the card?
When you last unplugged it, did you use the safe remove feature in the OS before you physically unplugged the device?

Hello,

no I didn't say to mark the question as SOLVED immediately, but WHEN done. It was just a reminder.
The results I was asking for are just informational, the command I gave you doesn't solve any problem.

With the new info you provided now, we can see the message

"FAT-fs (sdb1): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck."

Try to run the following commands (one-by-one), they will attempt to fix the filesystem. Please backup any sensitive data as it might get lost during the repair process.

    sudo umount /dev/sdb1
    sudo vfat.fsck -a /dev/sdb1

After the repair completes, safely remove the USB stick and mount it again.
See if this solved the problem.

Regards
NickTh

What results do you get if you repeat the whole procedure?

1. issue the command "sudo eject /dev/sdb1"
2. remove the card and what ten seconds
3. re-insert the card and wait ten seconds
4. issue the command "dmesg | tail -n 20"
5. issue the command "sudo umount /dev/sdb1"
6. issue the command "sudo fsck.vfat -a /dev/sdb1"

Remark: you might set the status of the question back to 'open' if your problem is not yet solved.

Yeah Problem is solved I dunped15.04 and went back to 14.04
spent several hours drag and drop to external Hard drive 186 gigs
Even took the .mozilla and .thunderbird folders
plus downloads, documents, video's, DWhelper, and pictures plus music about 40 or 50 gig of junk I have saved over time !
Erased 15.04 64 bit and reinstalled 14.04 64 bit
Now every thing works SD card does not fight me nor does the flash drives
