Make extra partition for Win10

Asked by tutoke

Hello,
A few days ago I finally agreed to upgrade my Windows 7 to 10 with desastrous results. Nothing is functioning anymore (blue screen with options to hit Enter, F2 or F12, with no result whatsoever). I could not reinstall from the factory Dell Win7 dvd. The only way to talk again to my laptop has been to install Ubuntu Linux (for which I still had a dvd from several years ago): this seems to work fine and it upgraded my os to a recent version.
I still would like to try to make an extra partition for a further trial to install Win10, but GPart does not allow me to change the main partition, where Ubuntu is presently installed (which covers almost the entire HD).
Can you maybe assist me in this? That would be very fine; thanks beforehand. Regards.

You can only change unmounted partitions. So if you boot Ubuntu from your hard disk, then you cannot modify the Ubuntu partitions that you used for this session.

You have to boot into a live system using an Ubuntu installation DVD or bootable USB stick in the "Try Ubuntu without installing" mode, and within this session you should be able to modify the Ubuntu partitions.

Can you help with this problem?
