Can't make it work!

Asked by Lord Setzer

It's been quite a long time now since I'd been trying to use ubuntu and I haven't been able to do it.
First, I tried with the Live CD, then, with the alternate CD, the first one didn't run, the progress bar just hanged forever. The second one installed alright, but unfortunately didn't run th OS later, with the progress bar hanging at the very same point (at least graphically speaking). I've tried other distros, such as Mandriva and OpenSuse, but with no luck. I have asked the forums for help, though that didn't pay off either. I really don't know what it could be. The only thing that actuallt worked was OpenSolaris, which is a completely different kernel, therefore hinting towards the incompatibility issue (that and the fact that with a "verbose" start it showed that the hanging point was "Loading Hardware Drivers"). so, as a final result to use Ubuntu I've come here. I've been doing some light research, and found that my motherboard has some incompatibility issues, specially if combined with my video card, nevertheless, it doesn't seem to be the same problem that I'm experiencing (or so I think). So, I've come here to see if you guys can work out some solution, or at least ('cause so I've bee said in the forums) to report this compatibility issue, and hope that at least it can be fixed for the next version. Thank you very much in advance.

This is my computer:

Processor: Intel Celeron D 320, 2400 MHz (18 x 133)

Motherboard: ASRock P4i45GV

Motherboard Chipset: Intel Brookdale-G i845GEV

RAM: 256 MB (DDR SDRAM)

BIOS: AMI (02/15/06)

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128 MB)

Sound card: C-Media CMI9739A/9761 @ Intel 82801DB ICH4 - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-0]

Hard drive: SAMSUNG SP0411N (40 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133)

To sum up:

-Not my first time in the forums (and as a matter of fact here is the second time I post)
-I already tried Live Cd and Alternative Cd
-I already tried other distros
-Only OpenSolaris (which is not linux) worked
-I'm trying to get i contact with the designers or anyone that can at least take it into account for next version
