usb ports not working after instillation of Ubuntu 14.04.3

Asked by Danny Tenhoff

Hello, I have installed Ubuntu 14.04.3 on a HP pavilion a1410n, with 200gb hard and 3gb ram. My problem that I am having is that after I have installed the os I don't have any USB ports that work. And I am not able to find out how to get them to work. I have used Ubuntu help and went through how to install Ubuntu 14.04.3 or Linux and I am unable to find how to fix this. Can I please get some help. Thanks Danny Tenhoff

Check in the BIOS to make sure they are enabled. You may want to also make sure you are fully up to date with:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Then reboot.

Is it better?

I realize this is a new installation you have, but perhaps something here will work?

Let me know what you tried.

Danny: I recently had a similar issue and solved it by selecting an older or newer GNU/Linux kernel version during boot.

I had this issue with kernel version 3.13 on a laptop. I did not have the usb port issue anymore when booting to kernel version 3.11 or 4.3 rc3.

Hope this helps.

None of these options worked to fix my problem. I can't get Ubuntu to work on the hp. So i will let R.I.P.

Can you help with this problem?
