Ubuntu 15.10 on VirtualBox stuck on login screen

Asked by Luca Ciavatta

I'm trying to test Ubuntu 15.10 (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-desktop-next/daily-live/current/wily-desktop-amd64.iso) on a VirtualBox virtual machine. Installation process has gone well and I can start the vm. I can see some issues on the boot process and after the login screen comes. In the login screen, I can insert the password but after I did the screen stuck and I can only the icon to shutdown or restart the system. I have also tried to enter as guest, but the result is the same. Moreover the key combinations ctrl+alt+F1, F2, F7 gave me only to a black screen with a flashing cursor and no terminal shell. I have tried to change some value on the vm configuration, but nothing happens.

On boot process, the screen shows:
ACPI PCC probe failed

intel_rapl: no valid rapl domains found in package 0

Have you installed the guest additions?

You should be able to do this in TTY1 once the ISO mounts for you.

Press

CTRL + ALT + F1

Do you get a TTY there?

I already wrote in the first message that "the key combinations ctrl+alt+F1, F2, F7 gave me only to a black screen with a flashing cursor and no terminal shell".

I suggest you report a bug. Have you tried Xubuntu? It doesn't require 3D stuff like Compiz does. If that works then we have isolated the issue a little.

Ok.
First I'll create a bug report and then when I have time I will try to download and install the Xubuntu version.

Thank you for support.

I have tried to install Ubuntu 15.10 (the same file of the same image) on VirtualBox on another host machine. A part some message during the first restart, all went perfect and the system works like a charm. I think the problem above is made by the host machine and not by Ubuntu guest.
