Loading Driver for printer locks up during install

Asked by Ian

Epson WP-4535 printer.

I have tried both network and direct USB connections; the printer is found and several different software options shown, but whatever I pick, the program locks up during the install (tried leaving it for an hour - just to be certain)

Brand new Ubuntu install, downloaded and set up today by a silver haired Linux virgin.

Running an Asus A88XM-A (AMD) mobo with 8GB of Ram and Ubuntu is installed on its own HDD (new Win7 install on the other)

I havent tried Terminal, because I havent a clue where to find it, or how to use it.

I originally tried to install Pinguy, but it kept failing on installing grub, and also made a mess of partitions on the HDD that I had to manually remove; Ubuntu didnt like this too much and wouldnt create a swap file when installing; although I cant see that being the issue here.

No, the ones I get offered are epson-201113w and epson escpr.

I have tried installing the file after manually downloading it as well - through the software centre, and that just hangs as well .

The "Local" printer options only go to WP-1000, so I cancelled that without trying it.

Thanks, however I have managed (somehow), to resolve the problem.

The first attempt failed (dont know why), and then got "stuck", stopping anything and everything from installing; even a reboot didnt clear it

I then played with the advanced settings on reboot, and something I did cleared the stalled install and allowed me to try again, although only the driver I downloaded manually worked - even though it is supposed to be identical to the one the system was offering me.

I have now found Terminal - it is going to take a while to figure all this out !!! I can remember the fun we used to have - asking a newbie to shut down Windows 95 (THERE IS NO OFF OPTION!! - at least - not until you click "Start" first.

Thanks for answering my calls for help.
