Should I put in new hard drive before I install Ubuntu for the first time

Asked by kyla

I just bought a new computer, but separately bought a new hard drive (4T), ram (16gb 1600ghz), and graphics card (gtx 960). Should I physically Install these before I install the os (Ubuntu), or should I install Ubuntu first and then upgrade after? Thanks for any help!

Doesn't really matter. If you want to have Ubuntu on the new drive then it will need to be installed.

Hello,

because the hardware you bought is not hot-pluggable (but cold instead, meaning the PC must be powered down to attach the new hardware), the correct way to follow is,
first install the hardware, reboot the system and make sure the BIOS/UEFI can see these devices correctly,
then install Ubuntu.

Regards.

P.S. Don't forget to mark the question as solved, when done.
