What are the recovery options?

Do you have your Vista install disc?

Let us know

I encountered something similar after using GParted to shrink my vista partition, the Vista boot would always hang, and *none* of the restore options worked. I got around it by booting to my linux install (this should also work from a livecd, I had feisty, Ubuntu 7.04, at the time), installing ntfsprogs, and running ntfsfix on my vista partition. Apparently something got messed up with the ntfs journal (or its equivalent of a journal. I booted to windows, it can scandisk, and all was good.

If none of your hp or ms provided restore solutions work, you may want to try this. It worked wonders for me.

when i upress f8 while booting it shows me options like
-safe mode
-safe mode with network command
-safe mode without grafics
-repair windows
-normal startup
-kernel debugger

i tried almost all of them but none is working.

Did you try booting the livecd again and running ntfsfix on the vista partition? You may want to do it with a newer livecd, such as edgy/feisty/gutsy.

Try the force option with mount: "sudo mkdir /media/windows/ && sudo mount -f /dev/sdX /media/windows/"

To find out which sdX or hdX use "sudo fdisk -l" and then locate the partition that is windows.
