UBUNTU 14.04 LTS cannot copy text from tty screen to text editor on gui

Asked by therev

jump from the gui with ctrl-Alt-F1 starts a tty console session

after sign in try to copy text by highlight with mouse ;

Text will then paste correctly back onto command line or into a vi edit session but when I go back to gui with ctry-alt-F7 the paste buffer is empty

tried ctrl-shift-C tried ctrl-insert

nothing works,
thanks,
Trev

you could use a terminal instead, then it will work as you expect. You can launch a terminal with CTRL + ALT + T

Alternatively, you can pipe the output of a command to a text file, then open that in the desktop UI

I had 2 problems first major problem was padre would not run 2nd was cutting pasting between console and gui didn't work ,

well I tried your suggestion of using a terminal instead if a console and padre started to work

I therefore think you must get top marks for solving a problem I had not presented you with,

thanks
