Normal NVidia problems but there's more

Asked by Kyle

OK so I am new to Ubuntu, but pretty quick to pick up with all my research I do. I have installed 14.04 LTS 64-bit. I figured out how to change my driver pretty quickly with all the post that I have come across. The issue that I am having is after the driver is switched for x serv.org to any of the additional nVidia drivers, I reboot and about 5 minutes offer login my screen jitters and everything is frozen. If I don't switch drivers my screen flitters like a strobe light anytime the is updates to the screen such as but not limited to a website loading or scrolling. I have also tried using compiz to fix the problem, but with the same results. I've followed lead after lead. It's always the same result or worse. Some additional info is: HP G60 laptop with a nVidia GeForce 8200m G graphics card and I changed from Vista to Ubuntu without dual boot.

At the login screen, press CTRL +ALT +F1 and login there. You can now run:

sudo nvidia-xconfig
sudo reboot

Is it OK then? Did you get an OK display with the open source driver? Are you planning to game on the system?
