Ubuntu 14.04 Fresh Install - Parts of screen garbled

Asked by Kanon Kubose

I've installed Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 on a Dell Vostro 1500 with 2.5 gigs of ram, and I'm experiencing garbled (corruption or gibberish) graphics. Screenshot at this link: http://www.herbaloutfitters.com/ubuntu/

I ran 12.04 before, and it didn't have this problem. This new 14.04 installation is fresh, not an upgrade. I've done all updates.

The diagnostic command and output are here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/11994904/

The screen starts off okay after boot, and the corruption seems to start if I open too many programs, getting worse the more resources I use. Sometimes parts will fix themselves if I manipulate the interface with the mouse, but other times they remain garbled even if I select the garbled text, etc.

Could try the Intel driver installer, may help.

OmgUbuntu has a guide.
