emails prior to upgrade disappeared after upgrade to 12.04

Asked by John Seddon

At the time of upgrade to 12.04 the system advised that Evolution mbox was discontinued and this version would be using maildir and would I like to migrate the messages over. No problem and the migration appeared successful but 24 hours later ALL messages have disappeared.(note: system settings still refer to it as 'mbox') I can send and receive but history has vanished. Is it retrievable and/or how do I fix this annoyance.John

Further to this question it would appear that what I'm seeing is a screen that represents an mbox email screen. When I upgraded to 12.04 it asked if I would migrate all messages to the new maildir, which I did but apparently the Evolution screen for mbox is showing but it has no indicators ie. sent, spam, trash etc. and when I compose it says error in mbox mail forwarded to 'sent' file. Maildir may be active but is unseen so history and receiving and sending are invisible. Can I reinstall maildir from synaptic or delete mbox or is it more complicated? Thanks

Further to this problem, synaptic says mb2md NOT INSTALLED.The original upgrade to12.04 had installed maildir which is now missing.Would reinstalling mb2md fix this???

I am not very good with E-mail, but will give some thoughts. First, when did you do this? Second, what did you upgrade from? Third, was an LTS to LTS or from 11.10 to 12.04?

Michael,Me neither but I upgraded from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS two weeks ago.I had migrated the e-mail as requested during the upgrade and had good e-mail for 1 day then nothing but screen.I composed on that blank screen and sent a message to my Yahoo account which I received but can't see or find the 'maildir' evolution screen so people are sending me e-mails I don't see and they get no bounce back error so it's building somewhere. On my home page I see a program called 'mbox' which was supposed to be replaced by 'maildir' and synaptic says I don't have mb2md  installed.I could try to delete mbox from my homepage and see if maildir surfaces but I don't want to dig myself into a deeper hole without knowing what I'm doing.Any help appreciated.John
