DVD format

Since changing to ubuntu I cannot play my dvds as I get an error message saying my DVDs are not formatted for the country I live in (Europe).

How do I change the software to accept my dvds?

I once had a similar problem under windows which allows changing the country zone.

Are they movie DVDs or data DVDs?

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | grep -i dvd
