i cant boot up my computer

i keep getting a bunch of computer garbage and then a word that says (initramfs) and don't know what to do

If you hold SHIFT at boot, can you select an older kernel and boot ok?

Please describe what came up, when you boot holding shift down. Did a dark screen with white text come up? You should see text about memtest, another line with text something like this 3.13.0-59-generic . Your numbers may be different, on mine an older kernel would be 3.13.0-58-generic. Whatever the highest number is, click on a lower number.
