nm_device_get_device_type: assertion 'NM_IS_DEVICE (self)' failed

Asked by Michael Heuberger

Hello there

In journalctl I see this entry:
nm_device_get_device_type: assertion 'NM_IS_DEVICE (self)' failed

Any ideas what it means and how to fix this?

Thanks
Michael

Perhaps this is the same problem as discussed in bug #1442044

If so, what's the solution then? I see a fix has been released to Wily but no to Vivid.

Does your network connection function as expected?
I do not know any details of that bug, but it seems to me that this is just a transitional problem during network initialization and hopefully does not cause failure of networking.

my network connection is pretty unstable ... i am experiencing random disconnections on the SSL/TLS plus SSH layer.

and if you say it's a transitional problem, then this shouldn't get logged until the network is fully initialized. polluting the log unnecessarily can confuse the user.
