USB Stick not on'Devices'

Asked by Neil Purling

I have just installed Ubuntu Kylin 14.04.3.
When I plug in a USB flash drive the led in it blinks rapidly and goes out. The drive does not appear in 'Devices'.
I then ran lsusb:

neil@neil-Presario-V5000-RE308EA-ABU:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 013: ID 08ec:0008 M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers TravelDrive 2C *
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

*=The stick is shown here.

How do I get any USB media to automatically show up?

What file system are you using?
When you last unplugged the device, did you use the safe removal feature in your OS?
What is the output of:

sudo parted -l; lsb_release -a

Thanks

No I did not use any removal feature It never appeared when I plugged the device in.
The problem device is a 128Mb DISGO flash drive.
The really weird thing is that the rest of my handful of flash drives (which do appear to mount) there is another with some video files on. The drive appears on the desktop and I can play the videos with smplayer.
To remove the working flash drives I right-click on them in the launcher and select 'Eject.
I don't know what is with the tiny DISGO flash drive, but there are documents on that

I ran "sudo parted -l; lsb_release -a" on a normal desktop PC.
The DISGO drive is formatted F16 . I assume because of it's extremely small storage capacity.

Run a full chkdsk on the partition. When it is finished, use the icon in the system tray to stop the storage (or right click the drive in My Computer and eject it from there
