mouse pointer problems

Asked by davidzaq1

I have a problem where I am typing and the mouse pointer just moves to a new area of the screen. If I am not paying attention to what is happening, I can be typing on one line and then it will jump into the middle of another line and type in a completely different place. I am not sure why it is bouncing around like this. It also moves at its own will and if it happens to land on a tab or something, the page will close, go back or what ever.

It there a way to fix this? It is really annoying.

Thank you.

Does the system have a make and model?
What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a

Are you using a touch pad or a mouse?

The system is a Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop

Output of above commands is:

$ lsb_release -a; uname -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 15.04
Release: 15.04

Linux Roo 3.19.0-26-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 11 14:16:32 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am using a mouse. I very rarely use the touchpad.

I just went to settings, to the mouse and unchecked everything but the mouse.
No more problems with mouse pointer
