World of Warcraft installation issues.

Asked by Joshua Watters

Followed installation guides and got the installer functioning at the loading screen that you can select from blizzard games to play. For wow it just shows locating. Previously I had it loading the game but words were terribly distorted. Trying to ditch windows but like to play wow and hearthstone. Not sure what I missed here. Also is there a command I can run to show what errors I am running into so that others can better understand the issue. -first time ubuntu user

Did you check the Wine AppDb to see how it is installed?
There are also hundreds of videos on YouTube telling users how to install the application, did you have a look at those?

You did not mention exactly which guides you did or did not try.

So I give you these:

http://www.webupd8.org/2014/09/how-to-install-world-of-warcraft-in.html

http://geebzor.com/tech/linux/wow-ubuntu-14-04-trusty/

Prerequisites for playing WoW according to the previous geebzor.com webpage:

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or newer
wine version 1.7.4 or newer

I used the geebzor one. Wow is erroring "Locating" permanently. Leads me to believe there is a file in a directory that it shouldn't be in.

/home/joshua/.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64/user.exe

The following file is missing in your install:

mfc42.dll (MD5: 7e4d1b552ee1dfa859ba9033b3670590)

Looks like this issue:

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/18300628370

So apparently it even occurs on Windows (without using Ubuntu or wine)....

You would have thought with all the money the game makes, they'd port it over to Linux.

Can you help with this problem?
