I installed the Canon CAPT Printer Driver for Linux cndrvcups-capt (64
bit) by run the program from a terminal. Whenever I go to system
settings and select printers, the printer icon named Canon LBP2900
appears. But when give a print test page command, the print job
command processed and the printer status shows as Idle - Sending data
to printer. Print job queue shows job number 1,2,3,etc.,pending and
even sometimes shows job completed without any progress/result.

If you delete the printer in Ubuntu and then power off the device.
Reboot the system then log in
Power on the printer and let the system re-detect the printer.

Does this help?

Attaching a screenshot when you reply to the automated email doesn't work. You need a hosting service like image shack or Dropbox public url to make a URL of the image which you can then post as an update on:

rebooted the system. I switched on the printer after log in. The
system re-detected the printer, but do not perform any print job.
