Unity slow to start

Asked by Danny Rafferty

After successfully logging on Unity does not start for about 60 seconds.
When it does start, the mouse is invisable for about 2 minutes.
I installed a Plantronics blue tooth dongle around this time which I have since removed.Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Lenovo ThinkCentre

See below

Processor : 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Memory : 3591MB (1133MB used)
Operating System : Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
OpenGL Renderer : Mesa DRI Intel(R) Q45/Q43 x86/MMX/SSE2
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation

 Plantronics Plantronics BT300M
 HDA Intel Front Mic
 HDA Intel Rear Mic
 HDA Intel Line
 HDA Intel Line Out
 HDA Intel Front Headphone

I am thinking this is related to the Plantronics dongle and would love to uninstall it but can't find anything that looks like Device Manager to allow me to do this.

I am a very busy person and don't have all week to be fussing around with my computer not getting things done.
I have a computer to do things with - not fiddle about with.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Danny.

If it's a dongle, surely just pulling it out will do it as well as allow you to easily test your theory.

Apologies. I have indeed removed the dongle but it still shows up in the
configuration so am suspicious.

Where in the configuration do you still see this dongle if you have unplugged it?
What exactly does it show?

Hi Manfred,
I tried re-installing Unity as per this post:
http://superuser.com/questions/890834/unity-ubuntu-14-04-very-slow-after-login

And I seem to be working OK now.

Unless it comes back in a day or so - I guess it's problem solved.
