synaptic: GLib CRITICAL: g child watch add full: assertion pid > 0 failed

Asked by Wim

The moment Synaptic begins installing downloaded files,
the first line in its Terminal Window is always:

(synaptic:2179): GLib CRITICAL **: g child watch add full: assertion 'pid > 0' failed

After this line Synaptic start reading-in the Database.
All seems to work OK. And all programs are installed/updated...

This behaviour is on several different PCs that were upgraded from 12.04LTS to 14.04LTS,
running Xubuntu with XFCE4

Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance !

I suspect that you have encountered the following bugreport:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/1282542

It seems to be just a nuisance, not a show stopper bug....

Andrew and Marc,
thanks for your answers (both very active on answers.Launchpad)

I did both
/usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/apt-get update
/usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/apt-get upgrade

And then no error-warning, see below.
I understand that this is a know bug; but i want to show my answers to Andrews question.
So it seems a typical Synaptic-behaviour.

Greetings,
Wim
