menus not working ubuntu 7.10

Asked by ash

need help. after login menus appear but not working when clicked and it boots very slow showing messages such as "system log daemon", "common unix printing system" etc. at first, i was able to log on and use the os but right now it's not usable anymore. anyway, im using dual boot together with vista. vista works but not ubuntu. thanks in advance for those who will take time to help. i hope the solution will be simple since i do not know about this techy things.

if you want to reboot ubuntu the live cd will auto wipe the sectors you select. you should have no problems just

try it again the same way.if you still are having troubles check the device ide and hard drive options for loading

with additional boot prompt

sudo sysctl -a | sort | more

should give you options listing

you can run this out of the live cd in the terminal under applications or possibly right from the boot line at thre

start-up menu

hope that helps peace =]

hi again, i tried to test my patience running ubuntu. menus were not working after login BUT i tried waiting for maybe 10 minutes more or less. Lucky! I can use the system but i guess 10 minutes is a long wait time before one can use his/ her computer. just few more questions: 1. why do i see 2 vista longhorn in the other operating system option in dual boot? is it because my hard disk has factory image on D and also has on C? 2. how can you adjust the screen to fit in my17 inch monitor?mine does not occupy the whole screen when i use ubuntu. it has vertical black screen on the left side. 3. i failed to defragment my hard disk before installing ubuntu, (i forgot)? after installing thru dual boot, i used my vista then i defragment. that's the time my ubuntu got slow. is there a relation between my defragmentation in vista with the ubuntu? thanks. just wanted to know.

1 vista is bad ..let me say this another way vista is bad if your going to styay in window use xp or perhaps win2000

2 try this link http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-239273.html for screen solution or http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources

3 you need to have a clear sector or memory hash on your drive for the sytem to operate properly

thats why you partition the disk space if you dont have a certain sector asigned to to each system you will have a problem

ubuntu should "authorize" the appropriate settings when you install the only reason i could suggest is that you are not selecting the appropriate pera-

meters. if you are doing a manual installation with the live cd make sure you know where your hard disk is free

you should be able to deduce that by using your disk defrag in windows and search the web for a "picture" or graph break down of what sectors your al-

ready occupying

and let me also give you this tip :]] VISTA IS BAD

Can you help with this problem?
