Installation of 14.04 leads to black screen

Asked by Ziggy Wood

I am trying to install 14.04.2 LTS to bare metal as follows:
Gigabyte MOB GA-EP35-DS3R
Gigabyte Nvidia Video Card GV-NX96T1GHP
Install media is DVD
Destination is Hard Disk.
Booting begins and I am able to select English and then the F1 to F9 options.
I have tried all the F6 options
Installation does seem to proceed but screen remains black.

The above result occurs when I use DVI connection to display.
If I connect the above video card to the VGA input to display using DVI to VGA adapter the installation is successful including all screen output visible. Swapping to DVI cabling after installation returns to black screen.

I have installed 14.04.2 to this hardware using DVI only, but as a guest virtual machine to VMware Player hosted on Windows 8.1. This all worked perfectly.

I would like to either:
1. Install to bare metal with DVI in place. OR
2. Convert to using DVI after installing with VGA.

I do hope you might be able to help me.

While I was unable to get your suggestion to work directly, the key word did lead me to find the following link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2263316 which succeeded.

Basically it walked me through finding and introducing the needed Nvidia driver to the VGA installation to then enable VDI support.
