Dapper Drake vs. Edgy Eft

Asked by hectorolivera

I went from Dapper Drake to Edgy Eft. I just received the Official Ubuntu Book with the DVD. Should I install Dapper Drake? if so, How do I go about it? On the other hand, what can I do to improve performance on Edgy Eft.
There are features that are not yet functional.

Sincerely,

Hector Olivera

I'm not sure I understand your question correctly...but I'll try to answer it anyway. Edgy Eft (6.10) is the newest stable release of Ubuntu, and unless you require long term support (3 years on the desktop and 5 years on the server), I suggest going with the latest and greatest: Edgy Eft (6.10). This is especially true if you intend to use your machine as a desktop.

As far as your book goes, I don't think the differences between Edgy and Dapper will be so drastic that your book won't be able to help you. In the worst case scenario, you will most likely have to replace the word "dapper" with the word "edgy" when the book mentions things like configuration files. Nothing major, really.

You may also wish to consult this page which outlines the basic differences between Edgy and Dapper as well as provides worldwide download links:
