Update from Ubuntu 14.04 stopped installing at"configuring-bcmwl-kernel-source, probably when computer went to sleep. Won't resume.

Asked by Jim

During the update from 14.04 LTS all was working OK until I came back to the sleeping computer. Waking, the Installing Updates progress box said "Configuring bcmwl-kernel-source". The progress band did not progress from there, details did not change, and the hard drive never did anything. Turning the computer off and on again did not restart UBUNTU. I reinstalled with the same results. How do I get it restarted?

What are you trying to upgrade to?

I thought it would default to 15.04, but when I re-installed it
acknowledged 14.04.2 was there, which I told it to replace. It didn't
offer a choice of update version so I guess it put 14.04.2 in again.

No, you will need to upgrade to 14.10 first, then to 15.04. You cannot leapfrog releases.

If you can wait til April 2016, you can upgrade directly to 16.04 which is also LTS (LTS to LTS releases are supported and encouraged).

Can you help with this problem?
