Installing Optus ADSL2 Internet using a Speedtream 4200 modem

Asked by bubblekitten

I have recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop and try as I can am unable to get anything out of my internet.

I have tried to connect to the modem by referencng its address (All needed in IE "10.1.1.1").

I am also unable to get a ping out of it.

The laptop is an ASUS F5Rseries.

The laptops stats are:
CPU: Duo T2050 Memory: 512MB HD: 80GB

The laptop origionally ran Vista (Chinese) but was switched to XP due to functionality and layout issues. Then switched to Ubuntu due to XP not recognising it had a sound card.

Neither Optus or Seimens proides support for Linux. can any one help getting this running?

Tried initially to connect through the USB cable and then Ethernet. Neither works.

Thanks.
