Terminal Logs Me Out

Asked by trnhlxfgh

I am running Xubuntu 7.10 installed from the alternate CD.

Every time I launch Terminal, it logs me out. I can boot into a terminal-only session at that point, but I want to run terminal while using other apps and without logging out and in again.

Interesting, I experienced the same problem last week on an old machine. (And that was installed from the desktop CD.)
I now can't try it on that machine, but you maybe can try to use another terminal emulator, for example xterm. ("sudo apt-get install xterm" or install it in Synaptic, if it's not installed.)
And can you give me some information about your hardvare? (CPU, RAM, ...)

Thanks,
Urbán Dániel

Thanks for your interest.

I guess, that maybe this is because the lack of memory, but I'm not sure.
I suggest to try it with a terminal emulator, that needs less memory, for example xterm, as I mentioned above.

Xterm works just fine and is all I need. I went with xubuntu for light weight, and it has been great other than this issue with terminal. I'd suggest making xterm the default and making the other one an option.

Thank you for the help.

I'm glad, that it helped.

Indeed, it's strange, that XFCE terminal behaves this way. However since that I tried it on another machine with similar amount of RAM, and it worked fine... I don't really know what is the reason.
